Rand Fishkin’s top Digital Marketing tip for 2015
- “With the growth of dark traffic from both search engines and social media sources, it's more critical than ever to look more carefully at your 'direct' traffic and attempt to parse out visits that are almost certainly the result of SEO or social success. This can be done by looking at the page receiving the traffic - almost nobody types in very long pages or directly navigates to them via bookmarks, so you can feel fairly confident that these visits are, in fact, from search or social.”
- “If the landing page URL has an identifiable snippet in the parameters string (e.g. your-page?src=facebook or your-page?UTMSRC=tweetdeck) that's an even more obvious sign. If you fail to segment out this traffic, you might not get nearly the respect, credit, or dollars/time that your marketing efforts are due, and your organization or client may fail to understand what's really driving their increase in visits.”
Digital Marketing tips from the Wolfgang Digital speakers
- Digital Marketing Manager, Rob Beirne on using broader attribution models:
“Look beyond the last click. Your campaigns will never reach their full potential unless you understand the real value of each component. Check out your top conversion paths in Google Analytics. Here, you’ll get a clearer picture of how your various channels are helping (or not helping) users along the purchase funnel.”
- Account Director, Brendan Almack on Google Analytics advanced segments:
“Set up a repeat customer advanced segment in Google Analytics. This will help you to understand the value of your repeat customers and help inform creative ways to market to them.”
- AdWords Engineer, Ciaran Murphy has strong words for Bounce Rate:
“Forget about Bounce Rate. Using Adjusted Bounce Rate will give websites a truer representation of how their blog / content is performing.”
- Head of Content & SEO, Aileen Power on getting links in 2015:
“Links still matter in SEO – you just can’t build them. Get the links you are owed by setting up a Google alert for your brand name. When your brand is mentioned in a blog or online article, check there is a link to your site included. If not, mail the webmaster and ask sweetly for your link.”
- Content Marketing Executive, Sarah Grogan hears there’s big Facebook developments a-comin’:
“Multi product ads will be released on 17th February. They’ll have 4 images with 4 clickable links to products. They have a very high click through rate so E-Commerce advertisers take note.”
- Content Marketing Executive, Roisin Linnie has just one tip for Twitter:
“Using Twitter custom audiences for retargeting is a must. Retarget to your website visitors, those who have added to basket or purchased and you will reach the audience who are most likely to be interested in what you have to say."
